PAF 110: Public Service Practicum

Last day to enroll is January 23, 2018! Please see Michelle Walker in Maxwell 102A for more information.

This class is your best bet for fulfilling the community service requirement for PAF 101.  You complete 35 hours of community service, attend five classes, and receive one credit.  In addition to fulfilling your 5 hour community service requirement for PAF 101,  it will take care of the community service requirement for entrance into the Policy Studies Major.

Wilson Park

To volunteer at Wilson Park for the 5 hour requirement, you must take the following steps:

1) Fill out the Wilson Park Volunteer Form. Indicate specific days and times that you would like to volunteer (must be between February 26th- April 2oth, Monday-Friday, 3pm-6:00pm)

2) Bring the completed form to 102 Maxwell Hall and get it signed by either Rodney Reynoso or Michelle Walker.

  • DO NOT contact Rodney or Michelle after February 26th for volunteer opportunities, this is a strict deadline.

3) Complete the Prospective Community Service Email and put Rodney Reynoso ( as the community center contact.

4) When you volunteer at Wilson Park: You must introduce yourself to the staff and show them the paperwork with the approval signature from either Rodney Reynoso or Michelle Walker and ALWAYS remember to sign in AND out!

Acceptable Service Sites

  • Sites must be inside of Onondaga County, but must be off-campus.
  • Sites may NOT be run by a fraternity or sorority.
  • Sites must have a mission of public service (i.e. non-profit, governmental agency)
  • Walks and fundraisers do not count as community service, no matter what they are held for
  • In certain circumstances, you may be compensated for your service (i.e. Literacy Corps)
  • Service may NOT be done by working for a politician

Policies and Procedures

  • Prospective Community Service email is due TBD by 12:45pm. Your TA will respond to you.
  • If for some reason you must change your community service plans, you must send an email to the community service director, to confirm the change is an appropriate site.
  • If you plan to fulfill your community service requirement at a site which is not on the list of acceptable sites, you MUST send an email to your group’s TA at least one week prior of the prospective community service email due date, then your TA will check-in with the Community Service TA to assure that your site is acceptable.
  • Once the five hour requirement is complete, the final form must be filled out and signed by your site supervisor.
  • The following forms must be handed in on TBD:
    • Final Community Service Form
    • Any other emails and verifications from the community service director
